HOW TO BE A MORE OBSERVANT DRIVER

Steven Day June 7, 2021

More often than not, auto accidents occur because one or both of the parties involved did not see the other vehicle. To avoid accidents, drivers need to be more observant. When you are more alert and observant, chances of being involved in an accident will be reduced significantly.

Being an observant driver does not only benefit car drivers. Statistics show that motorcycles have 16 times the rate of serious injuries, with people either killed or injured, as compared to cars. This means motorcycle drivers also have to be very careful. In this article, we will look at how you can be a more observant driver. In the case of an accident, be sure to contact our attorneys as soon as possible for immediate assistance.

SAFETY FIRST

Being observant is all about safety. The best way to be observant is to cultivate a culture of safety in the way you drive. As such, actively avoid aggressive tendencies that pose a threat to your safety. These include speeding in heavy traffic, running red lights, and changing lanes without signaling. You must also give yourself room for evasive action by leaving plenty of space between you and the car in front. Driving safely and staying focused will help our attorneys to assist you easily in the case of trouble.>

STAY FOCUSED

Whenever you are on the road, make sure you are focused. You must always observe road conditions, speed, traffic laws, signs, and signals. You should also be aware of the other drivers around you. You must avoid talking on the phone or texting while driving. These are major distractions, and so is eating while driving. If there is something you need to attend to, it's best to pull over and attend to them first.

STAY ALERT

There are many things that affect your reaction and judgment, and ultimately your level of observation. Alcohol and drugs are the most common substances that affect your observation levels. However, your mood and amount of noise around you can also affect and impair your driving. As such, you must avoid driving under the influence of drugs and driving while you are stressed.

Apart from that, you must ensure that you frequently check your mirrors and take note of how the drivers ahead and behind you are behaving. If any driver shows signs of aggression or dangerous driving so much that it worries you, pull over or find the best way to avoid them.

Always make sure to be on the right side of the traffic laws and to be more observant to avoid accidents. If you are involved in an accident, be sure to contact our attorney for help as soon as possible.
